Abstract & Overview

The dissertation examines the synergistic unity between God and man in the context of the anthropology of St. Maximus the Confessor. It consists of a preface, a list of abbreviations, an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter is historical in its content and deals mainly with the sources of the theology of St. Maximus. In the second, the emphasis is placed on the relationship Providence and freedom of creation, as a number of aspects concerning the foundations of the ontology and anthropology of the Byzantine theologian are interpreted. The third deals with the theme of the synergistic unity of God-man, with the emphasis placed on the ascetic views of the holy father. This particular chapter is also the center of the research as the union between God and man is considered in all its plans - asceticism, knowledge of God, love as an integrating factor of creation and ends with the deification of human nature as the goal of earthly existence.
