Abstract & Overview

Porous carbon material was derived from phenolic resin mixture by polymerization induced phase separation based on the spinodal decomposition. We prepared phenolic-based monolith based on benzenenesulfonyl chloride, sodium carbonate and ethylene glycol. In this study, the effect of composition of resin mixture, curing time and viscosity of phenolic resin on the pore structure of phenol and carbon material has been investigated. Different morphology of phenol and carbon material could be obtained by changing composition of resin mixture, curing time and viscosity of phenolic resin. Characterization of their morphologies and composition was also performed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP), and X ray diffractrometry (XRD).
