Abstract & Overview

This study investigates the feasibility of utilising guided ultrasonic waves for evaluating the mechanical characteristics of human bone in a manner that is non-invasive, secure, and economical. It specifically focuses on the detection of disorders like osteoporosis. The simulations and numerical studies investigate the impact of dimensional degradation, specifically alterations in the thickness of cortical bone, on the properties of guided waves. The present study investigates the propagation of guided waves in single-layer tubular waveguides that imitate the bone system. The bisection method is employed to graph dispersion curves in order to accomplish this goal. The model comprises a homogeneous monolayer structure made of tubular structures resembling bone. The findings indicate that the geometric parameters significantly influence the velocity of guided waves that are sustained by the bone structure. This research also examines the influence of fundamental assumptions in this model and determines suitable guided wave modes to accurately evaluate the bone's state.
